Attempted hijacking in Wildebraam St

Yesterday (June 10th, 2010) a silver car containing 4 men tried to hijack my wife's car. She had stopped to lock our driveway gate, when the car pulled up and the occupants asked for directions to some arbitrary distant place in Roodepoort. One of the passengers got out and approached the passenger side of my wife's car and she noticed that he was trying to hide a pistol. She screamed and the men drove off.

DCS were on the scene promptly and the police arrived more than 2 hours later. Unfortunately my wife did not note any further details of the car.

Earth Hour 2010 - Join Us

“We have only one planet. Given what we know about climate change today, it would be foolish not to act. Earth Hour 2010 gives an opportunity to the people of the world to unite in a call for action on climate change and to take the lead by making changes in their own lives.” - Dr Morné du Plessis, CEO, WWF South Africa

For Earth Hour 2010, WWF calls on all South Africans to switch off their lights on Saturday, 27 March, at 8:30pm as a symbolic act to send a powerful message to leaders that the time to act on climate change is now.

For more information on how you can be involved go to The Earth Hour website.

Annual Pavement Award 2010

It's that time of year! Summer has just about run its season, and gardens are in the best condition that they can be. And this includes our sidewalks, verges, pavement and whatever other name you like.

This means that our intrepid judges can once again take to the streets, stealthily evaluating the entries. But this year we are also giving our residents the opportunity to contribute to the assessment process, and so we have created a poll to be able to vote.

If you would like your pavement to be entered into the Awards, please add a comment to this blog entry, or send an email to chairperson@riverwel.org.za. Your address will then be added to the list of nominees.

Happy gardening!

"Municipal Workers" Struck

On Tuesday 4th November 2009 at 08h30, three black men posing as "municipal workers", wearing reflective jackets entered a townhouse complex in Weltevreden Park, overpowered domestic workers and escaped with valuables including a big screen TV. They then ran out of the complex gates to a white, unmarked bakkie with no registration plates. The getaway driver was in the bakkie. The incident was reported to the Security Officer (Neville) at Riverwel Residents Association and to the Dedicated Policing Vehicle (DPV) from Best Secure/DCS by witnesses.
